SOUL RETRIEVALS
WHY THIS TYPE OF HEALING?
The purpose of soul retrieval healing is to restore a sense of wholeness by reintegrating soul fragments that have splintered off during a traumatic event(s). The idea of the soul “splintering” may sound alarming but it is actually an adaptive response that helps minimize the full impact of trauma.
One way to conceptualize this process is to imagine a rocket launching into space. Using this analogy, we can think of the rocket as the soul fragment and the fuel that propels the rocket as the trauma. The part of the trauma that leaves with the soul fragment is exhausted and then jettisoned during this process, in the same way that a rocket’s fuel engine is jettisoned shortly after liftoff. This, of course, does not alleviate all of the original trauma but it does help to lessen it.
As mentioned, this soul splintering can initially help a person survive a traumatic experience, however, problems begin to arise when soul fragments are not reintegrated. In indigenous shamanic cultures the “mending of the soul,” (the returning of soul pieces), would have occurred within days or weeks of the traumatic event. However, in modern cultures, we may continue on for years, even decades with energetic fissures that can create imbalance and illness which affect our mental and physical well-being.
During a soul retrieval session, I am guided to fragmented soul pieces that are ready to return and able to help you integrate the healing they bring. Just as a soul continues to grow and change, so do its’ fragments and these fragments bring with them a wisdom specifically suited to the type of healing and transformation you need. Once returned, soul pieces do not suddenly depart again. It takes a new traumatic event to cause any further soul loss.
Please note that I do not have limitless access to your “personal files” while doing this work, meaning I cannot access information which does not pertain to the healing work at hand (nor would I want to). My guides show me only what you need to know in order to move forward and to heal.
It is also important to know that the healing offered during the session is only a beginning—providing the initial seeds of well-being. However, if the seeds aren’t “watered,” meaning the personal growth work isn’t done, the seeds will have no chance of growing to their full potential.
WHAT A SOUL RETRIEVAL SESSION LOOKS LIKE
FIRST STEPS
Upon receiving your request for healing, I will conduct a diagnostic journey and ask my guides two questions—"Is soul retrieval healing recommended at this time?” and if so, “Am I the right practitioner to collaborate with you on this type of healing work?” If I receive permission to work with you, you can then schedule a two-hour appointment for a soul retrieval healing session.
Please note that on rare occasions I receive guidance that it is not the right timing for this sort of healing work to take place or that I am not the right practitioner best suited to help you. This is a way for my guides to ensure that your time, energy, and resources are not wasted on healing work that is unlikely to bear fruit at this particular juncture. Instead, other guidance may be given in order to help you develop an optimal healing strategy best suited to your needs (including the right timing, the right practitioner and/or the right healing modality).
HOW TO PREPARE
You should prepare for the session by avoiding intoxicants for at least the day before, the day of, and the day after the healing session. Healing is a mind, body, soul endeavor. Intoxicants lessen our presence in our bodies and make the healing process more challenging.
I strongly recommend clearing your schedule for a minimum of a few hours after the session (and if possible the rest of the day). This will give you the needed time to rest and integrate the healing work.
It is also important to set a personal intention for the healing work. Take some time to think about what you hope the healing session will achieve and what changes such healing will create in your life.
For soul retrieval work it is helpful to come up with an image or metaphor of an object with absorbing qualities. For instance, your favorite flower absorbing the sun’s rays, a white clean cloth absorbing a beautiful color of dye, or a sea sponge soaking up the ocean’s water. You can use this metaphor during (and after) the healing work to help with the reintegration of the soul pieces.
Lastly, watch for synchronicities, messages, and shifts that may be occurring in the body and mind prior to the healing session. Sometimes, just setting an intention for healing can begin to put things in motion. Is there anything “asking” for your attention and awareness so that it can be transformed? You might also notice interesting messages or synchronicities either in your waking state or in your dreams.
THE HEALING SESSION
We’ll begin the session by reviewing what to expect during the healing work and I will answer any questions you might have. Next, I will ask what intention you have for our healing session. This is one of the most important parts of the healing process. Your intention creates the foundation on which the healing work is built. It’s a good idea to spend some time before the session contemplating what it is you are asking for.
The healing session will begin when I start drumming (this part of the session usually lasts for an hour or longer). During the first 20-25 minutes of drumming, I will be silently restating your healing intention and asking for assistance from guides who have aided me for numerous years. After this, the actual healing work will start. While I am drumming you will have a chance to tune into your own experience—some receive their own messages, imagery, or sensation during this time. Some become more aware of their bodies while others become relaxed or fall asleep. Whatever happens for you, please trust that it is perfect.
Once the soul pieces are collected, they are returned to you via two entry points within your body; your heart and the crown of your head. Breath acts as a conduit for their return and so I will cup my hands directly over these areas and blow until I feel them enter your body. After this is complete, I will drum, chime, and/or rattle around your body as a means of sealing the pieces in and of welcoming them home. Following the soul retrieval, there will often be further healing work done so as to aid in the integration of the soul pieces. This typically involves drumming over specific areas of the body to help remove blocked energy.
After the journey ends, I will stop drumming and immediately transcribe everything I saw and heard before speaking to you directly. Journeys have a similar quality as dreams in that if you don’t tend to them right away, some of the details can slip away. Once I have finished, I will relate what I saw during the journey, including the advice given about how you can assist in the integration of the healing work and will answer any questions you might have. If you have a recording device and would like to record this part of the session for future reference you are welcome to do so. During this time, you will also have an opportunity to share anything that transpired for you while I was drumming (if that feels right for you). After this, the session will be complete.
AFTERCARE
After our session, if you feel like it would be beneficial to have follow-up support, a place where you can share your challenges, triumphs, questions, and insights, I encourage you to make an appointment for an Insight Coaching session.
It is important to note that what is experienced both during a session and after can vary quite a bit from person to person. Some experience “fireworks” (lots of sensations and imagery) during or directly after a session, while for others, the experience is much subtler. However, the depth of sensation and imagery experienced has little to do with the outcome. Also, some healing shifts take months to actualize while others are more immediate. Some of this is dictated by personal work that happens prior to the healing session, but much of it is dependent on the personal work that follows.
Having worked with my guides for many years, and seeing first hand their selfless commitment to helping others heal in all ways possible, I trust them implicitly. My role in their healing work is to translate what I see, feel, and hear during a healing session in a way that brings about the most benefit possible. It is important to me that I help assist you in moving forward, and I choose my words as carefully as possible in order to facilitate this. Ever so often my guides offer feedback or insights which, though put very gently, can be challenging to hear. Often this is because they challenge the very ideas or patterns that may be keeping someone stuck. However, I have never known my guides to be frivolous or careless with what they share. So, if something comes up that challenges your assumptions or views, please know that this is offered with deep love and compassion as a way of helping you move forward.
On occasion, some people might experience physical discomfort during a session. This is caused by movement of energy that has been blocked for a long time. Similar to when a limb in your body goes numb, when feeling first starts to return to this limb there can be uncomfortable prickling sensations triggered by neurological communication resuming between the limb and the brain. During a healing session, the discomfort caused by restoring connections might take the form of pressure, slight nausea, sensations of actual movement, and so on. This is normal and a good sign that healthy connectivity is resuming.
In some cases, people might also experience a sort of physical detox after the session which manifests most commonly as symptoms resembling a cold or something similar. When you go on a detox diet, your body gets the signal that it can let go of the toxins it’s been holding on to. This is called the herxheimer reaction. Since the body and mind are inextricably entwined, emotional and spiritual detox can also trigger the body to “let go” of what is no longer serving it. If this happens to you, know it is a good sign that shifting is taking place. If you have questions regarding how to manage this type of physical response you will find that the Tummy Temple (a healing arts community here in Seattle where my in-person sessions take place) is a great resource for information and support.
Many people may also experience an emotional detox after doing healing work. When stuck energy is moved and released there is often an emotional catharsis that follows. If this transpires after your healing session please lean into your self-care routine and draw on your support system(s). Some of the things past clients have found helpful include mediation, time spent in nature, talking to a close friend, journaling, or physical activity. These types of activities can help you heal and move forward on your path. If things surface that are difficult it is so they can be released. Please help facilitate this process by giving yourself the time and support you need to heal. Emotional detox may also be a strong indicator of the need for Insight Coaching, an hour-long one-on-one session where we can collaborate to help you integrate and stabilize the healing shifts that are taking place.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and Spirit.
